Where can I view current and past financial audits?

Does Zakat Foundation receive a financial audit?

At the end of every fiscal year, July 1 to June 30, Zakat Foundation receives a financial audit from a third independent party to reflect the amount of funds collected and the manner by which those funds were allocated to different programs, fundraising and management.

How does Zakat Foundation send funds overseas?

Zakat Foundation establishes partnerships and regional representatives in the countries where we work. Through these relationships, Zakat Foundation performs fund transfers and monitors its use to ensure that collected funds are securely received and used for their intended purposes.

Is Zakat Foundation a trustworthy organization?

At Zakat Foundation, we believe that every resource entrusted to us is a sacred trust with the Creator and our donors. Therefore, stewardship is a very important part of our work. Zakat Foundation is committed to financial transparency. We are careful to use donated funds and resources as they are intended and we carefully monitor and assess programs.

Zakat Foundation has earned the trust of our local community, as well as the international community. In 2008, the Zakat Foundation of America was awarded Charity Navigator's highest "Four Star" rating, stating: "The Zakat Foundation has demonstrated exceptional financial health, outperforming most of its peers in its efforts to manage and grow its finances in the most fiscally responsible way possible."

How does Zakat Foundation keeps its overhead so low?

Zakat Foundation ensures low overhead costs by maintaining a small staff at our Chicago-area headquarters while working with partners and representatives at regional offices abroad.

How much of my donation will go towards administration costs/overhead?

Zakat Foundation’s Programs are divided into those which donations are contributed in their entirety and those from which overhead is taken from donations for administrative function. For the 2008 fiscal year, Zakat Foundation’s overhead cost was 7%. View our past Annual Reports.

No overhead is taken from donations to Orphan/Orphanage Sponsorship or Seasonal Programs. Administrative costs are taken out of Zakat funds as according to the Quran and Sunnah. You can, however, give your Zakat and designate in its entirety to a certain program. For more information, visit Zakat in Islam.

What is Zakat Foundation’s privacy policy?

Zakat Foundation does not sell, share, or trade donor names nor contact information with any third party advertisers/commercial interests.

All donations are treated as confidential except for Aqeeqah and Sadaqa Jariyah as donors can request to dedicate those projects by name on behalf of a newborn child or loved one.

Zakat Foundation does not keep copies of information above what is required. Only a limited number of staff have access to any donor information and must be approved by the executive director.

Transactions are processed by secure credit card processors that are identified on the site. The processor handles the approval of transactions with the credit card companies, while also protecting against fraud.
