The country of Jordan struggles with water scarcity, a widening poverty gap, and high levels of unemployment. An estimated 13 percent of the population lives in poverty.  A large number of  these poor are Palestinian refugees.

The United Nations estimates that Jordan is now home to 1.9 million displaced Palestinians.  Many of the Palestinian refugee camps in Jordan are poor towns that lack sufficient education and health facilities.

In these towns, the refugees have to cope with more difficult living conditions than others in Jordan. As people with undefined legal status they often lead vulnerable, precarious existences.
