Palestine/Gaza
Four million Palestinian people live in Gaza and the West Bank in precarious conditions. Overcrowded neighborhoods, blocked access to land and sea routes, excessive restrictions on movement and the ability either grow food for themselves or import basic staple goods have all contributed to the high level of poverty and food scarcity that is found in both of these areas.
The result is a vulnerable Palestinian population, dependent upon humanitarian assistance to survive. The blockade that was imposed upon the Gaza Strip in 2007 restricts travel and trade and has caused more than 2.5 million men, women and children in Gaza to suffer as a result. Supplies for food, water, and medicine have been cut off and the economic repercussions are great.
Zakat Foundation of America takes care to ensure that all of our operations in Palestine are in full compliance with US government guidelines for Charitable Organizations, due to political sensitivities associated with Palestine.
